How Often Should You Valet Your Car? A Realistic Guide for Warwickshire Drivers

8 August 20266 min readBy Josh May — Blue Horizon Detailing

It's one of the questions we get asked most on driveways around Rugby and Leamington: how often should I actually be getting my car valeted? The honest answer is that there isn't a single number that fits everyone. A Range Rover that lives outside under trees near Kenilworth has very different needs to a Porsche kept in a garage and only driven on dry weekends. What matters is understanding what dirt and contamination do to your paint over time, and setting a routine that keeps on top of it before it becomes expensive to fix.

Here's how we think about it, based on the vehicles we look after across Warwickshire.

The short version

For most daily-driven cars in this area, a proper valet every 4 to 6 weeks keeps things in good shape. If your car is ceramic coated or garaged, you can stretch that further. If it lives outside under trees, does a lot of motorway miles, or carries dogs and kids, you'll want to be at the shorter end — or even more frequent.

What actually dirties your car

It's not just visible grime. The things that damage paint are often the ones you can't easily see:

  • Bird droppings and tree sap — acidic, and they etch into clear coat if left. Very common in the leafy villages around Warwick and Stratford.
  • Iron fallout — tiny metal particles from brakes and railways that bond to paint and wheels.
  • Road salt — a winter problem here, and it clings to lower panels and arches.
  • Traffic film — the dull grey layer that builds up from motorway driving on the M6 and A46.

Leave these long enough and a simple wash won't shift them. That's when you move from a routine valet into needing a heavier Deep Clean (from £180) to reset the paint.

A realistic schedule by how you use your car

Daily driver, parked outside

Every 4 weeks with a Maintenance Valet (from £80). This is the sweet spot for most people — a safe hand wash, wheels, glass and a quick interior tidy keeps contamination from ever getting a grip. If you want a bit more care each visit, our Maintenance Plus (from £110) adds more attention inside and out.

Garaged and lightly used

Every 6 to 8 weeks is usually fine. A garaged Aston Martin or BMW M3 that only comes out on dry days simply isn't collecting the same contamination. You still want regular attention because dust, tyre marks and the odd bird strike still happen.

Family car with pets and kids

Every 3 to 4 weeks, and the interior is often the real work. Dog hair, spilled drinks and muddy footwells build up fast. A regular valet stops that from becoming a full interior extraction job later on.

Ceramic coated cars

This is where the maths changes. A car protected with professional-grade ceramic coating is far easier to keep clean because dirt and water release from the surface instead of bonding to it. Many of our coated clients drop to a maintenance visit every 6 to 8 weeks and the car still looks superb between them. The coating does the hard work; the valet just keeps it topped up and contaminant-free.

Why regular beats occasional deep cleans

Some people wait until the car looks bad, then book a big one-off clean. That works, but it's the more expensive path. Contamination that's allowed to bond needs decontamination, clay work and sometimes correction to remove. Staying on a steady rhythm means each visit is quicker, cheaper and gentler on your paint — because we're never fighting months of built-up grime.

Think of it like servicing a car. Small, regular attention prevents the big bills.

Where protection fits in

If you're tired of the whole cycle, protection is the answer. A one-off Enhancement Detail (from £495) to bring the gloss back, followed by a ceramic coating, dramatically reduces how much effort future washes take. For a car you want to keep pristine long-term, the New Car Protection Package (from £675) sets it up right from the start with coated paint, glass and wheels.
