How to Protect Your New Car with Ceramic Coating
You have just collected your new car. The paint is perfect — no swirls, no contamination, factory fresh. The question is how long it stays that way. Without proper protection, most new car paint starts showing swirl marks within the first few months, simply from washing.
Ceramic coating is the single best thing you can do for your new car paint in the first week. Here is why — and what it actually involves.
Why New Cars Need Protection Quickly
Dealer preparation is one of the most common sources of early paint damage on new vehicles. Many dealers use machine polishers or automated systems that introduce swirl marks before the car is even delivered. If your car has sat on a forecourt, it may have been washed multiple times using equipment that scratches the paint.
Our New Car Protection Package (from £675) includes a light enhancement polish specifically to remove any dealer-induced marring before the ceramic coating is applied. You are starting with genuinely pristine paint, not paint that looks pristine but has hidden defects underneath.
What Is Ceramic Coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds chemically with your vehicle clear coat, creating a semi-permanent protective layer. Unlike wax or a paint sealant which sit on top of the paint and degrade, a ceramic coating becomes part of the surface.
We use GTechniq Crystal Serum Light — a professional-grade, two-stage coating with a 5-year durability rating when applied by a certified installer. We also carry G1 Clear Vision Smart Glass for all windows, and C5 Wheel Armour for alloys.
What Does a Ceramic Coating Actually Do?
- Hardness — rates 9H on the Mohs scale, significantly harder than clear coat alone, resisting fine scratches and swirls from washing
- Hydrophobic — water beads and sheets off the surface, making the car easier to clean and reducing water spot risk
- UV resistance — slows paint fade and oxidation from ultraviolet exposure
- Chemical resistance — resists bird drop etching, road salt, tree sap and industrial fallout far better than unprotected paint
- Gloss — amplifies the depth and clarity of the paint, making it look richer than factory finish
When Should You Book?
Ideally within the first week of collection — before the car gets washed anywhere. Every wash without protection adds potential swirls. The sooner you are coated, the better the starting condition of the paint.
If you have already had the car a few weeks or months, we can still prepare it properly before coating — a decontamination wash, clay bar, and light polish to get the paint to the best possible starting condition.
What Does It Cost?
Our New Car Protection Package starts from £675, which includes the enhancement polish, full GTechniq Crystal Serum Light ceramic coating on the paintwork, and full interior clean and fabric protection treatment. Glass and wheel coating can be added.
For a vehicle worth £40,000 or more, the cost of ceramic coating is very small relative to the protection it provides over years of ownership.
