Seasonal Car Care Tips for Warwickshire Drivers
Warwickshire four distinct seasons each bring their own challenges for vehicle paintwork and bodywork. Here is how to protect your car through each one — and when to call in professional help.
Autumn — Leaves, Sap and Falling Debris
Falling leaves contain tannins that can stain and etch paint if left in contact for extended periods — especially if they get wet and sit against body panels or on the roof. Seed casings and sap can also cause damage.
Wash the car more frequently through autumn, particularly if you park under trees. An autumn Deep Clean or Maintenance Plus visit is ideal — getting the car into good condition before winter hits.
Winter — Road Salt and Grime
Winter road salt is by far the most aggressive threat to your vehicle bodywork — particularly the underside, wheel arches and lower panels. Salt accelerates corrosion and is difficult to remove with a standard wash.
- Wash more frequently — at minimum every two weeks through the salting season (typically November to March in Warwickshire)
- Pay attention to wheel arches and the underside — direct the rinse hose up into wheel arches to flush out salt-laden grime
- Apply a wax or sealant layer before winter begins — this provides a sacrificial barrier against salt and grime
- If you have ceramic coating, a topper spray helps maintain the hydrophobic layer through winter washing cycles
Our Maintenance Valet and Maintenance Plus services are popular through winter specifically because we do the job properly — including wheel arches, door shuts and all the areas that get neglected in a quick wash.
Spring — Pollen, Bird Droppings and Tree Sap
Bird drop acid can etch into clear coat within hours on a warm day. Tree sap is similar: sticky, stubborn, and capable of bonding with paint if left to cook in the sun. Check the car regularly and remove bird drops and sap promptly. A post-winter Deep Clean is highly recommended — removing all the winter accumulated contamination, including iron fallout and road grime that has bonded to the paint surface.
Summer — UV, Heat and Wash Water
Summer UV is the primary cause of paint fade and oxidation over time. Hot sun also causes water spots to form quickly if the car is washed in direct sunlight.
- Wash in shade, early morning or evening — not in direct midday sun
- Ensure your paint protection is in good condition before summer
- Summer is the ideal time for paint correction and ceramic coating — warm, dry conditions are optimal
